Today is apparently the day of reckoning – results day. Potentially the final results day I’ll ever have.

Last time it was awful because I was at college and everyone’s nervous energies fed everyone else’s leaving sensitive people life me feeling a bit of a nervous wreck. I feel reasonably calm today. But I’m annoyed because I thought they went up at 9 so I tried my best to sleep until half eight, but now I remember they don’t go up until 10 so I have 39 minutes to waste, therefore, this is a potentially very long post.

I’ve just come back from the 2000 trees festival. The music was good but what made it really fun was the camping and the atmosphere, I got to wear wellies and not care about how I looked. It seems to me that the highlight of camping is preparing food, everyone seems to get into the trenches spirit and helps out.

Also, I had a very nice birthday on Friday, it was very quiet, exactly how I wanted it and I was given an electronic drum kit which was exactly what I wanted, even though I didn’t dare tell anyone this.

I suppose that’s a plan, I could waste some time (36 minutes and counting) thumping my drum kit. It’s currently sitting in the living room, which I guess is not to Mom’s liking.

Thinking about results once again, I’m concerned about all of them, as always, but the ones that really worry me the most are conduct (concerns me because no one fails conduct – a bit like business accounts….) and also welfare and immigration. Welfare apparently has the worst pass rate of all the elective subjects, it’s based on maths (like accounts) and it’s taught by Shaid (like accounts) and in the exam the time was so pressurised.

Doing a resit will be hard anyway because my brain has been on holiday for nearly 2 months now, but also it’ll be during the week my family and I are supposed to be going to Norfolk. I don’t do well when I’m left on my own at the best of times, let alone when I’m left alone for a long period of time to revise for and sit an exam.

30 minutes to go…

Even though its only ten past twelve, I can already say that the first business day of my renewed job search has not gone well. Last week I applied for a job as a conveyancing legal secretary via a recruitment agency. This morning I got a phone call from said recruitment agency who told me that I couldn’t get any work as a legal secretary without experience of audio typing. I told the woman that I was fresh out of college, I have a degree and a professional qualification but I just want to get some experience.

To get a job you need experience

To get experience to get a job

But to get a job you need experience

But to get experience you need a job.

It’s halfway through the first business day of my renewed job search and it looks fairly bleak.

It might identify areas I need to improve. We shall see.

If there is a band wagon to jump on i do endeavour to jump on it. I think I’ve missed the whole Twitter train, plus I hardly ever check this or Facebook so what is the likelihood of me being diligent with that but Spotify was something i think could be really useful.

When i was signing up and downloading it I was surprised because it looked different, like nothing that had come before. Then i opened the actual program and i find that it is virtually identical to iTunes. Why is it that technology is hardly ever truly innovative but just variation on the apple theme. Do we believe that a little music player is the pinnacle of human invention. So the way it looks isn’t very creative.

There is an awful lot of music on there, I did a few searches for some really obscure things and i couldn’t get the better of it and the adverts aren’t too annoying. I think it’s the sort of thing that i would get used to but by far the best thing is that you can cue tracks up which has always annoyed me about iTunes, it seems to be such an obvious feature.

The question really is would i pay £9.99 a month for ad-less access when i can’t put it on to my iPod and take it where ever I want?

A fascinating piece about capital gains tax and civil partnerships. I still have no training contract bites. I had another two No’s come back today. I’m starting to think in this economic environment that I’m not going to get a job. I’m not going to be able to get a solicitors training contract but neither am i going to be able to get a stop gap job because employers don’t want to employ someone who is only there until something better comes along.

I managed to get a lot done over the holiday. I’ve applied for three more training contracts and i’ve got a couple which i may apply for in a few days as they would require me to move away. Moving away is not out of the question it is just something i would have to think about and start preparing for immediately. I dont see that it would be possible to move into somewhere totally new and start my first full time job within days of each other.

October was a blur. I don’t really know where it went.

In that time I had consolidation week. I went on holiday with my family in this week. I did, however, take all of my work for the next few weeks with me so it wasn’t all relaxing. I managed to take some fantastic photographs of a huge storm that occurred whilst I was there which I must post on here. It was dramatic enough to make the news, but only the ‘Majorca Daily Bulletin’.

The day after I returned home from my holiday I had my business accounts exam. I have no idea how it went, the final accounts worked out I think but as I cant remember what my final figures were I can’t compare with other people. I quite enjoyed looking at pre-prepared accounts and saying what they showed, but again, whether this is an advantage or disadvantage I don’t know.

Two days after this I had to hand in my first research assignment and the day after that (today in fact) I have a practice interviewing assessment.

It really is all go!

I’ve been ploughing through the Training Contract and Pupillages Handbook and looking at firm websites to try and establish firstly that they are right for me and secondly that I am right for them.

Very early on in my search I realised that I am not suited to huge multinational corporate firms. It is not my achievements or my knowledge that make me unsuitable – my grasp of agency and connected lender liability is a good as the next guy’s – it’s my extra curricularctivities aand my general career aspirations which i feel set me apart.
